My Suburbia

There are many photo-essays on suburbia, but generally they have themes of isolation and sterility. Few expect to find beauty in suburbia. I am no exception. When I am planning a photo expedition, I’m off to a park, or maybe the city. But actually, I spend much more time walking the streets of my suburban neighborhood than I do the trails of a national park. So I set for myself a project: photograph visually interesting scenes in my own neighborhood. I sought neither to criticize nor praise, but to document. The images in this gallery fall onto several genres, but most I would characterize as an “intimate landscape” where beauty is the result of the interaction of the intentional and the fortuitous. I’m thinking of making an exhibit of these photographs, so I welcome critiques.
